I hadn’t planned to do book reviews here but I recently read one that I just have to share.
Possessed by Kathryn Casey was free through Amazon Prime so I decided to take a chance. It had good ratings and reviews, 4.5 stars on Amazon and 4.1 on Goodreads. Being free, I figured I didn’t have much to lose.
Oh my god, this book!
I started reading and was immediately hooked. I finished it in a few days. I also poked around a bit and discovered Ann Rule called her “one of the best in the true crime genre” which is some high praise coming from the queen herself!
The book opens by introducing us to Stefan Andersson, a Swede who calls Texas home. A brilliant scientist with many friends who consider him family. He lives a quiet life full of routine.
Until he meets Ana Trujillo.
She loves to party. She seems a little… off to friends of Stefan. But he loves her and they try to be understanding. They help him through the many times he breaks it off with Ana, only to be drawn back in again.
We are all familiar with domestic violence against women. Possessed shows the other side, when a woman is the abuser. Stefan tries to leave. But she keeps coming back and he loves her, forgives her, and lets her back in.
Which ultimately leads to his death.
Possessed is still available to Prime members to read free on Kindle. I would highly recommend it if you enjoy true crime books. Even if you don’t have Prime you can buy it for less than $7. Or go find it at your local library or second-hand book store.
I didn’t want to give away too much plot-wise in this review. The book is well written and Casey truly delves into the life of both Stefan and Ana. You feel like you know them. You feel like you are at the trial (I tried not to google the results before I finished the book).
Casey definitely has a way to present a story and draw you in. I will be adding her to my list of authors I want to read more from.
